It’s that wonderful time of year when pressure is off training – race season is over, and training is back to an easier pace generally and there is a larger component of fun and social activity based training. (eg. the Macca’s ride))

Now is the time to work on any weakness, rebuild or build that all important base, enter events simply for the fun and experience of the event, ride and run with mates, and maintain fitness over the winter months.
However, the season will come around quickly, and although there are a myriad of fantastic events over the winter months, next season’s race planning is extremely important now. Races have to be entered early so thought and care need to be put into planning your 2011/2012 race calendar. Talk to Wazza or Oliver if you have any queries or questions about any races or events.

Watching the Tour of California and the Giro d’Italia is a reminder of the soon to be held Tour de Southern Stars – run in alighnment with the Tour de France.
There is also the Gatton Grunt – a great event for the not so keen swimmers amongst us – and a new and neat aquathon series on the Gold Coast.

So brave the cold, add lights and warm clothing to your bike and run stuff, shake out the googles and swimmers – Runcorn Pool is wonderfully warm – and see you at training!
It needs to be mentioned here too – this is a perfect time for anyone to begin training with the Southern Stars, anyone that has been away for a while or complete beginners. Skills, drills and technique work along with long slow distance work is the winter focus and training is within everyone’s capabilities. So let your friends know or anyone that might be interested in having a try at triathlon, come and join us.
