Well done to everyone who competed in the Westpac Tour De Tri event at Kawana on Saturday and Sunday!
Firstly, our Coach, who certainly leads by example. What a massive effort - starting at 1pm on Saturday, he was still racing at midnight (in the pouring rain), out again to squeeze in a round before driving all the way to Brisbane to work for several hours, then returned to the course and completed yet another lap before taking a well deserved break.
Mark (aka Bubbles) started with the girls on Saturday morning without necessary shoulder action to swim or the luxury of team mates to hand over to. Mark raced continously for the 6 hrs, no breaks at all (’cause we can’t count the one swig of burbon and cola). Thanks for the smiles and support out there, Bubbles and well done on your race.
Jacqui and Gen teamed up and proved to be the winning combination on the day. Jacqui was into the race with great attitude and determination and absolutely nailed the course. Gen, cheered on by her husband and son, made them proud with her effort. These girls raced their team to 7 full laps of the course and achieved more than they thought could.
Tara and Pauline worked fantastically well together and both dug really deep to obtain a fantastic result for their team. Tara swam and rode with ease and ran with determination. Pauline masterfully managed the pool and was back in her comfort zones for bike and run. Their team managed 6 full laps.
Beginners no more, girls! Absolutely awesome effort, you earnt some serious bragging rights and it’s only onwards and upwards from here.
I would also like to say well done to Marcel (hope you’re checking the site, Marcel!) Endurance events are recognised as being 70% mental and 30% physical. Girlfriend, you absolutely rock! You are an inspiration indeed and did yourself proud. Awesome job!
