Tour d’Southern Stars

Podium Places: Individual Time Trial
The Tour d’Southern Stars is complete. What a wonderful and challenging three weeks of riding.

We have tackled almost every facet of riding during the three weeks. Beginning with the Prologue and ending with the Time Trial we seen our time triallers ride brilliant stages.
Then we moved to flat and fast stages which showcased our sprinters – didn’t seem to matter which part of Brisbane they were riding – Yeronga Corso or Graceville all sprint points were fiercely contested.
Into the hills – and they were all mountains, Mt Cootha, Mt Gravatt, O’Reilys and even Dutton Park Hill – showcased the strengths of the climbers.

Awesome work folks, and well deserved congratulations to all competitors and in particular those filling the top ten placings in all categories.

I’ve updated the race calendar for the 2010 / 2011 triathlon season. Hopefully it includes all races, however, let me know if you find anything I’ve missed.
It’s a perfect guide to plan your race season and winter training goals.

Club Champions

Posted in May 1st, 2010
by Sue Prince in Training

We are pleased to announce our 2009/2010 club champions are….
Sicko Champion – Mark Jarvis (aka Bubbles)
Kling On’s Champion – Peta Shiels
Gumbies Champion – Michelle McAuliffe
Wannabe Champion – Chris Shiels

Hard work and training has paid off with some outstanding results. Wazza managed to put together an amazingly tough, challenging, tight and evil course which was wonderfully spectator friendly.
Three laps of the Southbank Lagoon (Sicko’s were handicapped by being made to swim with bands) with an added sneaky soft sand run around the lifeguard tower on each lap and “slightly” mobile turning buoys all made for a fun and difficult swim.
The bike was a 1klm flat looped course. What weren’t in the course description were the two sets of traffic lights and a compulsory stop. On such a short course and with the frequency of the red lights it rapidly became a hot dog circuit as riders were either on their brakes or accelerating frantically. The Sicko’s were again handicapped by being made to wear their backpacks for the ride. A compulsory aid station was included in the course where competitors had to drink Gatorade, eat lamingtons and slices of lime. Interesting bike course….
Then the run and it was held in keeping with the two previous disciplines. The run was three short laps of along the street front of Southbank. In keeping with previous legs, the Sicko’s were again handicapped by being slapped with drafting charges and made to run an extra lap. Again that horrible aid station policeman was there and we were made to carry a snake (without eating it), partake of not only lamingtons on this leg but also fizz whizz (incidentally without water).
So you can see, those who came through to be declared Club Champions in each of the four categories are indeed worthy of our congratulations. A special mention to Mark (Bubbles) for his outstanding efforts racing over the weekend as he managed a 3rd place in the BRW Corporate Triathlon on Saturday, and then Club Champion at the Club Race on Monday.
Well done to everyone.
Thank you, Marcelle, for arranging such wonderful prizes both for placegetters and for the random draws. Much appreciated by all of us.

Hi Folks,

Well… Mooloolaba has been raced and won as has the Port Macquarie Ironman Australia race!! Also we haven’t caught up with those who raced Bribie, Kingscliffe or Raby Bay whilst us wandering souls were travelling. Looking forward to reading some awesome race reports and let me tell you, I have never personally managed to have so many excuses for going so slow – it’s going to be the best reading yet!! Can’t wait to read all the race reports. Should be fantastic newsletters for the next couple of months.

Training sessions are now back to their regular place on the web site. Remember to check where to meet and when. Also, in case of any last minute changes on weekends – make sure I have some way of contacting you for short notice things.

Winter months mean fantastic weekend distance rides and social rides, so grab your lights and we’ll have our warm gear soon, and we can enjoy clocking up quality klms.

It’s time to begin thinking of what you want to achieve next season – working on weaknesses, improving strengths and picking and setting targets and goals for your racing season. It is the perfect opportunity to work on technique, drills, strength work, core strength and base fitness – all of which will maximise your winter training months and enable you to hit the ground racing for next season.

Also, it’s time for the next round of beginners courses. So the next Introduction to Triathlon session is in planning for a start date of the 3rd May. It’s a little later this year but I need the time to advertise the course. Please help by letting people know, inviting others along and generally advertising the course. I’ll have a flyer up for notice boards in a couple of days.

Great to be back, looking forward to seeing you all again at training soon (as I’ve a few Easter eggs and Birthday goodies to work off!).
Cheers
Sue
